Product Description
Cast Acrylic rivals glass in transparency (92 percent light transmission) and exhibits outstanding weatherability. The casting process produces profiles with superior optical properties compared to molded or extruded products. Physical properties are also superior with less process induced stress (resistance to cracking/crazing). Cast Acrylic is approximately 1/2 the weight of glass and fabricates similar to wood. Post machining polishing can produce crystal clear components.Applications include displays, models, electrical/electronic parts, special lighting applications and industrial fixturing.

I don’t have any kids of my own (that I know of), but all of that may change when I’m on Maury’s show next week. In the meantime, I’ve been investigating products that would be safe for kids and will also keep them occupied for hours on end.
I’ve been torn while shopping for rods because I know the old axiom “Spare the child, and spoil them with rods,” but how am I supposed to know what kind of cast, clear rods that old babies like to play with? Finally I think I have found what I am looking for, to paraphrase U2. Acrylic is certainly the answer.
Old babies have a lot of imagination–I am told–and giving them a clear acrylic rod is like a golden ticket into Willy Wonka’s wunder-factory. They can use it to roll along the floor, or put tiny toys in it, or to push it around on the floor…the options are seemingly endless. I also thought of something else that might catch their fancy: give them some finger paint and tell them to paint it the color of miracles. And then sit back and watch how their lil’ underdeveloped minds take flight.
So I will be getting a baker’s dozen of these acrylic rods and (spoiler alert!) giving them to every little tyke I know at Xmas. However, parents should be warned that these rods should not be used as a babysitter and can never really take the place of quality time spent with the old baby, because they should be spending most of their time playing with grown-ups, other children, or watching TV.
In rod we trust.
