Question by : Tell me what you think?
I’m trying to write a book, just out of fun, and I’d like to know what others think of it. I asked my friends to read it and correct it, and they say is that it’s great. But I don’t believe them, because… Well, they’re my friends, of course they’re going to say it’s good. So, I was wondering if you could read this and tell me what to change or what you like about it. Be harsh.

Gregory Willshavim rose from his bed groggily and stumbled over to the restroom. He passed by his nightstand, where an old-fashioned alarm clock occupied the dusty desk, and glanced at the time. 8:24, the clock read. Gregory continued walking, when the fact that he was late to work, worked its way into his brain. Gregory sighed warily and walked into the bathroom, silently closing the door behind him, preparing himself for the day.
Gregory managed to shower and change in 15 minutes flat, and he was now attempting to brush his teeth while fix his bed. He thrust the lightest cover over his head and tried to spread it out, onto the bed. While he was doing that, he was also squirting tooth paste onto his toothbrush. As he was squirting the last drops of tooth paste out, a blob plopped onto his comforter. Gregory cursed and decided that he had no time for silly games and licked the mint flavored paste off the paisley covers. He quickly stuck his green toothbrush into his mouth and started to jump around, so that the bristles of the brush would reach all his teeth.
Once his teeth were taken care of, Gregory focused his attention to his half-finished bed. He pulled the covers, stretched them out and thrust his pillows onto his bed, while hopping around the room, like a madman. After fixing the bed, Gregory bounced to his bathroom and looked at himself through the musty mirror. He opened his mouth and pulled the corners of his lips into a smile. Perfect.
Gregory then, ran out of his tiny room and was half-way down the stairs when he realized that he forgot his papers in his bedroom. He rushed back into the room, tripping over his untied laces and scrambled down the stairs. Gregory reached the last steps, and attempted to jump to the last step, however, Gregory stepped onto a magazine and slipped down the last few steps.
Groaning, Gregory got to his feet once more, and shook off the pain. He walked down the hall, and turned a corner, reaching his small kitchen. Gregory looked around the wooden kitchen; he saw dirty, left-over food scraps on the plates, which were piled on the counter in a dangerous angle. The window on top of the sink was filthy with dust and you couldn’t even able to see the counter. Sighing, Gregory pulled open one of the wooden cabinets, which was hanging by its last hinge, and grabbed the last clean mug.
He trudged to the sink, and opened the faucet, letting hot water gush out. Gregory put the mug under the faucet, filling it to the brim with boiling water, burning himself a few times. Gregory then set the mug on the kitchen table, and grabbed a nearby dish cloth to dry his burning fingers. Once his fingers were taken care of, he opened a drawer and pulled out a small packet of hot chocolate. He clumsily poured the powder into his mug, and mixed it all up with a plastic spoon, spilling hot water all over the wooden table.
Gregory looked over at the clock on the wall, 8:50, it called out. Gregory rolled his eyes, and gulped down the hot cocoa. Unfortunately, the water was still boiling and Gregory burnt his tongue and throat. His eyes popped out as he was drinking his hot chocolate and he accidently dropped the glass mug. Gregory propped open his mouth and gasped for cool air, deciding that he had no time for this, he rushed out of the front door, almost forgetting his briefcase. He ran down the street, sticking his burning tongue out of his mouth.
Gregory passed by a wooden fence and by the house that belonged to the crazy beagle. He ran until he caught sight of Gil’s Convenience Store, and sprinted past a group of cars, almost getting hit. Once he reached the Convenience Store he slowed down his pace and walked into the store, relaxing a bit. He opened the glass doors and walked inside. He looked around the place, hoping to find the one thing he needed. Gregory’s eyes darted past the potato chips, the neatly stacked bottles of soda and past the boxes of Fig Newtons, until he found what he was looking for.
He surged forward, and swung open the door to the refrigerator. Gregory extended his thin, pale arm and grabbed hold of a carton of milk. He brought it to the cashier and as the man, wearing a green shirt and a tag that read How may I help you, rang up the milk, Gregory’s eyes focused on the pack of Fig Newtons. Without thinking, he reached out and pulled a bag of delicious cookies injected with figs and placed them on the grey counter top.
“Are you buying those too?” The man behind the cash register, who was known as Paul, asked.

Question by arthur c: Old Honda metal outboard fuel tanks. It is difficult to see much inside, but they are faily rusty outside.?
Hi, I have two old Honda (20ltr) metal fuel tanks. Red with rust spots on the outside, and a metalic lustre on the inside. It is difficult to inspect the inside thoroughly. I know that plastic would be better, but it would cost £50 to replace both tanks, and I would hate to throw them away if they have years of life in them. I am tempted to simply add an in-line fuel filter and hope for the best.!

Should the tanks be scrapped or cherished? Comments and advise please.

Scrap them that rust will kill your motor and the fuel.

Yes ,its good but it also depends on the way you write it so people WANT to read it and not just get scared by seeing soo much stuff that they wont read anything. REALLY need to make your spelling better.

I took my cat in to the vet because he had little red bumps from his tail leading up to the middle of his back. He has been licking them and cleaning himself more than usual. And in the process, coughing up hair balls for the first time in his life. And unfortunately, its causing the hair on that part of his back to thin and become more coarse. Hes strictly an indoor cat and is on flea and tick meds. The vet said she thinks its either a food allergy or a flea bite allergy.

She put him on a 2 week course of antibiotics and suggested i switch him to a hypoallergenic diet. I told her that my boyfriend and i are broke students and really cant afford that at the moment. She said that she understood, and said that if this doesnt work completely, to bring him back and she’ll test for food allergies.

Hes been eating Aldi brand dry cat food for almost 2 years now and he loves it. When i open a new bag, hes eating it even as i pour it into the plastic storage bin. (mind you, he doesnt have a set eating schedule, so theres always a bowl of food out)

He is 3 years old and fixed. He never goes outside, and he rarely gets any table scraps. He occasionally gets a piece of cheese or chicken, but only when the chicken has been boiled with no seasonings or sauces. We’ve tried giving him boiled chicken for a while but its too expensive and i honestly dont have the time to boil chicken 2-3 times a day.

Whats the best and or cheapest way to treat this problem? Can we just switch him to the aldi canned food, or any other type of canned food? Is the allergic reaction more common in dry food?

I just need some help and advice for a broke student trying to do whats right for our pet. Thank you in advance for any and all suggestions.

It must be noted that cats are classified as belonging to a family of flesh-eating, predators mammals. Except for a very minute quantity of seeds and green matter (which form the contents of the stomach and digestive system of the cat’s prey), it must be argued that a cat does not consume anything but meat, including bones, fur, feathers and internal organs. In its’ natural environment, the cat requires very little, if any, water.

Therefore, for a cat problem like yours I think home made cat food are best for their health, as it contains less grains and cereals (which can make them diabetic and fat cat…an unhealthy one) and containing more meat (which are healthy and can fight against diseases and allergies)

He is 3 years old and fixed. He never goes outside, and he rarely gets any table scraps. He occasionally gets a piece of cheese or chicken, but only when the chicken has been boiled with no seasonings or sauces. We’ve tried giving him boiled chicken for a while but its too expensive and i honestly dont have the time to boil chicken 2-3 times a day.

Whats the best and or cheapest way to treat this problem? Can we just switch him to the aldi canned food, or any other type of canned food? Is the allergic reaction more common in dry food?

I just need some help and advice for a broke student trying to do whats right for our pet. Thank you in advance for any and all suggestions.

It must be noted that cats are classified as belonging to a family of flesh-eating, predators mammals. Except for a very minute quantity of seeds and green matter (which form the contents of the stomach and digestive system of the cat’s prey), it must be argued that a cat does not consume anything but meat, including bones, fur, feathers and internal organs. In its’ natural environment, the cat requires very little, if any, water.

Therefore, for a cat problem like yours I think home made cat food are best for their health, as it contains less grains and cereals (which can make them diabetic and fat cat…an unhealthy one) and containing more meat (which are healthy and can fight against diseases and allergies)

I took my cat in to the vet because he had little red bumps from his tail leading up to the middle of his back. He has been licking them and cleaning himself more than usual. She put him on a 2 week course of antibiotics and suggested i switch him to a hypoallergenic diet. I told her that my boyfriend and i are broke students and really cant afford that at the moment. She said that she understood, and said that if this doesnt work completely, to bring him back and she’ll test for food allergies.

Hes been eating Aldi brand dry cat food for almost 2 years now and he loves it. When i open a new bag, hes eating it even as i pour it into the plastic storage bin. (mind you, he doesnt have a set eating schedule, so theres always a bowl of food out)

1992 f150 2wd 5.0 5 speed…haven’t had the truck long. when i got it the clutch seemed very touchy. what i mean is that the clutch could be engaged/disengaged in the first inch or so of travel. also, the clutch seemed hard to push in (not really really hard, but stiffer than most i’ve ever driven). the clutch however, did not slip.
truck was driven about 200 miles or so and then the master cylinder rod came off (plastic insert busted). master cylinder rod and pedal assembly hole lined up ok so i just put the rod back in and wire tied it. pedal seems ok now…no major slop and it’s solid…BUT…once that repair was done i took the truck for a ride and the clutch slips badly under load.
i pulled the rubber plug out of the tranny and see no unusal leaks/brake fluid. i also don’t see an overabundance of clutch dust or pieces in there (supposedly this clutch was replaced a while back, how long i don’t know).
ok…so i’m a bit perplexed and wanted to get some input before i yank the transmission out.
inspection under the dash reveals a VERY slight residue in the area of the master cylinder rod…not much oil at all…but a little bit. i also noticed that there is no spring on the clutch pedal (i see the v type notch where i think one goes, but there isn’t one there, isn’t one under the seat or in the general vicinity so i assume that there wasn’t one on there when the clutch seemed fine too?).
ok…so i’m looking for input.
i wonder if the master cylinder is bad (but with such little oil residue i’m doubtful)…
i’m doubtful on the slave cylinder cause i see no wetness inside the tranny when looking through the inspection hole…
i’m kind of doubtful on the clutch itself because 1. it was supposedly replaced 2. i don’t see a ton of dust or scraps in the tranny through the inspection hole 3. it did not slip prior to the pedal coming undone.
do any of you versed ford people have ideas?

also…if i pump the clutch pedal while looking into the master cylinder with the top off for each pump there is a “spurt” of fluid that comes up. is this normal? (don’t see any air bubbles either).
and if i do have to pull the tranny how does one get the hydralic flex line off the transmission (from the master cylinder)?

thanks for any input/ideas.

Question by Alex (Laika): I had an unusually splinter that I have had trouble with for weeks now… Please help?!?
A few weeks ago I was opening an instant coffee sachet and I was startled when I felt a pain in my thumb. Somehow I had picked up a splinter on the top left had corner on my right thumb.

I dont know how the splinter got there or what it was made of… but it was not made of wood. I think it was either glass or steel. The coffee sachet was made of plastic lined with foil. I could not see the splinter but I could feel it. I was very thin and transparent. I tried to remove it but I only succeeded in removing the part that was sticking out, which basically meant I snapped it off with most of it still present underneath my skin.

I left it for a couple of days before I decided to try and remove it. I used a needle to open up the surrounding skin and tried to work it out. It was very difficult. Eventually I got desperate so I simply got some nail clippers and clipped of the bit of skin that was raised around the splinter with the hope that I would remove the splinter with the skin.

Alas… once again I was able to remove some of the splinter, but there was still more of it inside my skin. At this stage the skin in the area was in not shape for anymore messing around with. So I gave up and left it.

2 weeks later I noticed a bump over that area and that the skin had grown OVER the area essentially sealing it. It was slightly swollen and painful but mainly annoying. I was unable to grasp objects, play guitar or catch a ball.

So have no idea what to do.. I merely scrapped the skin off the stop of the bump so as to unseal it with the hope that something could be done. It now looked like a typical wart. It was about 7mm in diameter with a swollen area radiating outward (about half the size of an MM!)

I also noticed that the area contained wierd dark bumps like there were particles just below the surface. Either rust or blood clots (tiny scabs). I have no idea what it was. On closer inspection the area looks like a bundle of blackheads!
Yes… blackheads. As crazy as that sounds thats how I would describe it.

Furthermore, I decided today that I would take more action. I picked at it with a needle and this is what happened. I ended up pulling out what appeared to be the roots of the blackheads. They looked like follicles about 1mm thick and 2-3mm in length. I squeezed them to see what they were made of and it was puss and tissue. It bled slightly and stung!

I have absolutely no idea what is going on. Now there is a hole in that area about 5mm in diameter and about 3 mm deep.

Do you have any idea?
Glitter? Thanks for your answer. Are you implying that I am now under significant risk of infection?

If you have any expertise in dermatology please give me an explanation.

Well what i would reccomend is to just cut out what you can then soak your finger in vodka. This will sterilize the hole so that no infection may grow. Soak your finger in the vodka for about a minute, dry it out (towel or tissue), and bandage it.

With luck no bacteria will grow on the exposed tissue, allowing your body to naturally repair the surface of the skin
