How do I make my own vermicomposting bin?
Posted by admin in Question & Answers, tags: vermicompostingI read an article where the author said he used a plastic tote bin. How would I create airflow and would the worms escape if I drilled holes in the lid? Or should I just spend the money and get a good kit?
I alread have an outdoor compost bin. I’m looking to create worm castings over the winter with my table scraps.

The kind of worms used for what you have in mind don’t climb, so your worms wouldn’t escape through holes in the lid. You might be better off making a few holes at the tops of the bin walls, because air tends to move sideways, not up and down. .
