Its best if your Gerbil goes in for surgry for geting the plastic out. That could be fatal if there was nothing done about it.
Trust Me I learned from animal science class.

  2. kj says:

Just remove the plastic from his reach and don’t worry about it. Plastic isn’t good for a steady diet, but chewing on it once probably shouldn’t hurt anything.

I dont think he would have digested it, Check his bed, Hes proibly using it as bedding. If he has eaten it then he will probibly die,

M hamstr did that to. I would recomend to go to ur vet to get x rays. then they will no if she/he dijested it. If she does’nt she could die. it will block her organs.

Don’t worry about a thing ,my gerbils did the same thing and nothing bad happened to them.I use to breed gerbils a long time ago and I find them cute little critters to have around. Just do not let them loose around your place for they can make one hell of a mess of your house. They just love to chew up your furniture and destroy your carpet.

might be under his bedding becuase my hamster chewed on a bag of chips and i was looking if he ate any and i found a lot under his bedding

  8. Eric says:

Don’t worry the gerbil will poop it out later.

  9. camila says:

try using small animal laxatives. If you don’t find one specific for gerbils, you can try laxatives for rabbits, as long as it says that it can be used for small animals. This may help get rid of any bag particles in his stomach.

Honestly, the gerbil more than likely just chewed it up and spit out tiny little bits, just like they do with cardboard. If you don’t see the bits he chewed up, then he just made a hole in the bag. I would watch him closely for the next 24 hours to see if he is pooping. I wouldn’t give this a second thought unless he doesn’t pass any poop, or he gets lethargic and doesn’t eat or drink.

I bet you that he will be just fine. I wouldn’t recommend giving anything by mouth right now though. This is just a wait and see thing. Even if you had an xray taken, plastic would be difficult if not impossible to see, unless there is a big wad of it stopping up the intestine, which I really really doubt.

Gerbils chew up everything, but they don’t eat everything they chew, luckily for us :)
