Question by Bansuri Heartbeat: How can I control mice in my compost and prevent them from hanging out there in the future?
I have been composting for a few years now, but only since last year have I been doing above-ground composting (I used to just bury it). I have a big plastic tube-like container that is freestanding and has holes all over the sides so the compost can “breathe,” and decompose more easily. There is no bottom and no lid.

I put food scraps in my compost, as well as leaves from my yard and a good amount of soil to cover the food when it is added. I live in Montana where it is pretty cold from October to March. I know the mice are just bunkering down because it is cold and they want to be near warmth and a food source.

I do not want to get a new compost bin if I can help it, and I need to continue using my compost to get rid of my food waste. I have read that I should water the compost more frequently and stir it more frequently… but in that case I am concerned with the whole pile just freezing… that won’t happen, will it?

I am also thinking I should use the “contaminated compost” to fertilize my lawn instead of using it in my garden next spring (haunte virus).

What should I do from here? Do I need to start a new compost pile? And how to I prevent this from happening in the future?

Question by Ice: Should I seek medical help for a cut from a blade?
I cut myself with a metal blade (scraper; was using it to scrap sticker off of a plastic board). It bled alot and didn’t stop bleeding even after I put alchohol/antibiotics(?) on it & bandaged it. The next morning I changed the bandage but it was still on the verge of bleeding –not clotting very well.

The cut is about 1 inch? It’s pretty deep.. maybe 1/4 or 1/3 of an inch; on the palm/skin under the thumb.. it’s been throbbing too. I don’t know the last tetanus vaccination I got was. Should I be concerned & visit the hospital? or just let my body self-heal + hopefully it’ll clot & heal itself?
Blade wasn’t rusted; just alot of sticky (from sticker) and Windex solution on it maybe.

& I don’t want to try stitching it myself ahaha O_O
