Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) November 30, 2010

For the second year in a row, VAST Enterprises went home from Greenbuild with an ED+C Readers’ Choice Award for Best Exterior Product/Design. Winners were announced in Chicago on November 16, 2010 at Greenbuild, the world’s largest exhibition devoted to green building. Last year, VAST Composite Landscape Pavers took the prize; this year, VAST Composite Permeable Pavers.

VAST Enterprises is the materials science research and manufacturing company that invented composite masonry as an eco-friendly alternative to clay brick and concrete pavers. The Readers’ Choice Awards is an annual online contest sponsored by Environmental Design + Construction (ED+C) and Sustainable Facility magazines.

“VAST continues to win awards because green building professionals and technology experts alike understand the significance of VAST’s scientific breakthrough,” said Mark Moe, co-founder and chief operating officer, Entrepreneurs Management Group (EMG), Woodside, Calif. “VAST has engineered the world’s first composite that combines recycled rubber and plastics to create a composite material that offers the strength, durability, natural appearance, and design versatility to replace molded concrete and traditional brick.”

With its patented composite materials technology and high-tech manufacturing process, VAST has re-invented the permeable paver. VAST Composite Permeable Pavers reduce rain runoff into storm drains and decrease stormwater pollutants by infiltrating rainwater into the soil. The pavers have a tested infiltration rate of more than 450 inches per hour (4.9 gallons per square foot per minute) when installed with aggregate conforming to ASTM D448 No. 8. To ensure that the pavers can be installed according to ADA Accessibility Guidelines for Buildings and Facilities (ADAAG) # 302.3, VAST manufactures them with spacer lugs engineered to maintain a precise 0.275-inch space between pavers.

“VAST Composite Permeable Pavers, like all VAST composite masonry products, are made in our engineered composite material that is a proprietary blend of up to 95 percent recycled car tires and plastic containers,” said Andy Vander Woude, chief executive officer, VAST Enterprises, LLC. “All our paver products are cradle-to-cradle green and enable green building projects to earn LEED? certification credits easier than any other paving material.”

“The VAST production process requires 94 percent less energy and releases 89 percent less carbon dioxide than concrete product manufacture,” said Steve Smith, chief technology officer, VAST Enterprises, LLC. “Our process does not emit mercury or generate any volatile organic compounds. With VAST, there’s no scrap, no waste, and our products are 100 percent recyclable.”

“VAST engineers its pavers so that they’re not only green but superior to the products they replace. Their solution features their installation grid system. When VAST pavers are inserted into the grids, they are spaced and aligned correctly. And VAST pavers are one-third the weight of concrete pavers,” said Phil Rausch, lead estimator and hardscape specialist, K&D Landscape Management, Rockdale, IL. “When we used VAST for the greenhouse project at Joliet Junior College, we learned for ourselves that the lighter weight and grids reduce installation time.”

In addition to VAST Composite Permeable Pavers, VAST composite masonry products include VAST Composite Landscape Pavers, VAST Composite Deck Pavers, and VAST Composite Thin Brick. VAST Enterprises also manufactures Firestone SkyPaver Composite Roof Pavers for Firestone Building Products Company, LLC (FSBP).

VAST Enterprises, LLC

VAST applies its patented technology to transform recycled materials into a new resource for green building: composite masonry. VAST composite products — including landscape pavers, permeable pavers for stormwater management, deck pavers and thin brick — offer an engineered alternative to molded concrete and clay brick. VAST meets the most demanding requirements for aesthetics, durability, sustainability and installation efficiency. Award-winning VAST pavers deliver rich colors, superior slip resistance and unbeatable strength at one-third the weight of concrete pavers. VAST can contribute to more LEED? credits than any other paver. Today, every 5,000-square foot VAST landscape installation keeps 2,500 scrap automobile tires and 75,000 plastic containers out of U.S. landfills. Tomorrow? The Future is VAST.

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) December 4, 2010

Nice Rack is going green! In an effort to be a more eco-friendly surf rack company, Nice Rack is now making surfboard wall racks using 100% recycled plastic. The goal is to reduce the environmental impact of manufacturing surf racks by using recycled materials.

Nice Rack made the switch to recycled plastic earlier this year. Recycled plastic is actually less expensive than Virgin (non-recycled) materials. This made it a no-brainer to make the switch. Its a win-win solution, we save money on materials while helping to reduce our impact on the environment, says Nice Rack Owner, Michael H. Russell.

The recycled plastic actually comes from the runners or scrap pieces left over from the production process of injection-molded items. Rather, than just throw out these plastic pieces as waste, they are collected and re-processed into re-usable plastic resin pellets. We purchase these resin pellets from a Recycled Plastics vendor to use for the production of our surfboard racks.

While some manufacturers question the durability of recycled plastic, Nice Rack has found only a marginal difference in strength when used as surfboard racks. Weve tested the holding capacity. While the recycled parts are not indestructible, they work sufficiently well as a storage rack for surfboards up to 9 ft. in length. The difference was not significant enough to notice and we figure our customers would much prefer Eco-friendly surf racks anyway.

Surfer, Shaper, and Engineer Darryl Matsui founded Nice Rack in 2005 in San Diego, California. Michael H. Russell, a San Diego Native with a passion for all things surf related, currently operates Nice Rack. Our mission is to provide reliable eco-friendly surfboard storage racks at an affordable price. Nice Rack is made in the U.S.A.

Originally designed as a surfboard storage rack, Nice Rack can also be used to store snowboards, wakeboards, and kite boards as well.

We have experienced incredible growth in the last year. I look forward to expanding our marketing campaigns reach to accommodate for the growing demand from action-sports enthusiasts.

Lincolnshire, IL (PRWEB) February 7, 2011

Sentral Assemblies, LLC., a leading supplier of custom wire harnesses and cable assemblies, announced that it has successfully converted its sales and engineering processes to a paperless system built on salesforce.com.

The sales and engineering departments previously relied on a paper-heavy method of capturing and developing new leads and quote opportunities. After reviewing multiple electronic CRM platforms, Sentral selected salesforce.com. Originally intended only to be used as a front end, the system was quickly adapted to include other functions of the company. Sentral president Bill Schlitz commented Once we looked at the options, salesforce.com was the obvious choice for CRM. Almost immediately we began to see the how flexible and powerful the system was. It wasnt long before every department wanted to go online.

In less than 60 days the company successfully incorporated sales, engineering, and production control into the system with no loss of data and dramatically improved efficiency. We thought at the start it would cut down on some paper, said Schlitz, but we are now looking at reduction of thousands of sheets of paper, and the toner and supplies that go with it. Our salespeople now have instant access from any location to all customer data, so it means outside people arent driving to the office to look up every detail. The associated savings are significant.

The companys Green Initiative had previously engaged in recycling of scrap wire, cardboard and plastics, as well as production policies that emphasize cutting waste and preserving the environment. The step to paperless further supports that program.

Questions regarding the companys Green Initiative can be directed to Garry Dayton, director of quality at (847) 478-9720.

Sentral Assemblies is a manufacturer of custom wire harnesses, cable assemblies and electro-mechanical assemblies. Its primary manufacturing facility is in Lincolnshire, IL. Since its founding in 1990, the company has grown to be one of the largest privately owned cable assembly facilities in the U.S.

Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) February 22, 2011

The New Year has begun for VAST Enterprises with yet another accolade for VAST Composite Pavers, the innovative pavers manufactured in an eco-friendly composite of recycled materials.

The February issue of Green Builder magazine features VAST(R) Composite Pavers as one of the Hot 50 Products for 2011. In December 2010, BUILDERNews included VAST as one of the selections for its annual Best Product picks. And in November 2010 at Greenbuild, the world’s largest green building expo, Environmental Design + Construction (ED+C) announced that VAST Composite Permeable Pavers were voted Best Exterior Product in the annual Readers’ Choice Awards..

VAST Enterprises is the materials science research and manufacturing company that invented and patented composite masonry: the world’s first and only rubber-plastic composite that offers the strength, durability, natural appearance, and design versatility to replace molded concrete and traditional clay brick in hardscape, landscape and flat roof applications.

VAST Composite Pavers are cradle-to-cradle green and contribute to more LEED? green building credits than any other paver. VAST manufactures pavers in its patented composite of 95 percent recycled car tires and plastic containers.

“Every 5,000-square foot installation keeps 2,500 tires and 75,000 plastic containers out of U.S. landfills,” said Steve Smith, chief technology officer, VAST Enterprises, LLC. “Compared to concrete product manufacturing, the VAST production process requires 94 percent less energy and results in 89 percent less greenhouse gas emissions.”

“Our technology enables us to produce composite masonry products for green building. Because products manufactured in our composite material are one-third the weight of concrete, VAST can also be used for applications for which concrete or bricks would be too heavy. And we can develop products that are faster to install for professional contractors and easier to use for DIY consumers,” said Andy Vander Woude, LEED AP, chief executive officer, VAST Enterprises, LLC. “That’s why VAST keeps winning recognition for innovation.”

VAST Composite Pavers continue to be featured in high-profile projects across the U.S. and Canada. These projects include the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, Calif., the IRET Corporate Plaza in Minot, N.D., and the Pete Dye-designed Pound Ridge Golf Club in Westchester, N.Y.

VAST Enterprises, LLC

VAST applies its patented technology to transform recycled materials into a new resource for green building: composite masonry. VAST composite products — including landscape pavers, permeable pavers for stormwater management, deck and roof pavers, and thin brick — offer an engineered alternative to molded concrete and clay brick.
In celebration of Earth Day 2011, Trex, the worlds largest manufacturer of wood-alternative decking and railing products, has created this video message to showcase its commitment to creating a cleaner environment and a healthier future for its consumers and communities.

On Earth Day and every day Trex sets the standard for green outdoor living. As one of the largest film and plastic bag recyclers in the U.S., every year Trex turns more than 1.5 billion recycled bags into beautiful and durable decking and railing.

Starting in 1992, long before the term green was even on the scene, Trex composite technology was used to recycle the plastic waste from Mobil Corporation. Today, the Trex brand has expanded to include a variety of eco-friendly outdoor living products from decking and railing to deck lighting and outdoor furniture. Trex outdoor living products offer significant design flexibility with fewer ongoing maintenance requirements than wood, as well as a truly environmentally responsible choice.

How to Buy Green Furniture

Article by Pradeep Thanvi

As a responsible citizen of this world leading an eco-friendly and green lifestyle, you could be wondering how to purchase green furniture. Buying green, after all, means that you’re doing your bit to maintain a healthy planet. Purchasing green furniture also keeps your home healthy as green furniture doesn’t set any harmful substance in the air that you breathe.

Here’s how you can go green with your furniture

Look for FSC certified wood

The best way to buy quality green furniture is to go for FSC certified wood. Such type of wood is sustainable which has been properly harvested. It means that no harm has been caused to forests and the fragile ecosystem hasn’t been compromised with.

Buy bamboo products

Environment conscious manufacturers are increasingly using bamboo for making eco-friendly furniture. Bamboo is versatile and several furnishing products, from furniture to flooring material are being made from it. As bamboo grows back quickly, there’s no question of the resource being depleted.

Purchase reclaimed wood furniture

Such wood is usually got from buildings, bridges, old furniture etc. In fact, it can be reclaimed for anything that comprises wood as part of its construction. Discarded industrial scraps, reclaimed log from rivers are a good source of such furniture. Barn wood furniture is extremely preferred. Reclaimed wood comprises its own patina and richness.

Buy local make furniture

Buying locally manufactured furniture, is one of the greenest choices. Sustainability is the underlining word about green furniture. You can cut down energy costs when you buy such furniture. Moreover, you also support the local economy when you buy such furniture.

Buy recycled furniture

Furniture manufactured from recycled plastic or metal is another option to go green. Anything that can be recycled could be considered as eco-friendly. While this could be much of a sweeping statement, recycling actually means that you’re using fewer resources. With technology improving at a rapid pace, the quality of recycled material has also improved vastly.

Buy non-toxic or low toxic furniture

Purchasing furniture that has a non-toxic or low-toxic finish can reduce the emission of toxic gasses. Such gasses could be a health hazard in a well insulated room, where toxins can’t escape easily. Look for a suitable certification that would ensure that you’re buying furniture that has no or minimal toxic chemicals.

Buy vintage or used furniture

The easiest way to go green is to buy vintage furniture. Though such furniture is unlikely to come with any FSC certification or made with approved wood, still they are likely to have passed decades where they have finished emitting toxic gasses. You would also prevent the wood from being wasted in land fills by using it in your furniture. High quality vintage or antique furniture is vastly sought after and you can even resell it at the price you had bought it.

Going green is the latest buzzword among furniture manufacturers. But manufacturing environment friendly furniture would only be successful when we buy them. This would encourage the manufacturers to produce more such furniture.

  ]]>

There are many ways to be green today. Some require more time than others, but may be worth it in the end. Here are some tips that you may find helpful to use in your home.

1. Recycle-How many people get excited that it is recycling day? You can get rid of more than just empty milk containers. You could make a habit of going through your house once a month and any containers that almost empty, make a point of trying to dispose of them in the next month.

2. Florescent lightbulbs anyone? Is your house or business using energy saving florescent or LED light bulbs. If not, change them. You don’t have to change the bulbs as often and it will save you money.

3. Post large items that have been laying around and are not used anymore on either Craig’sList, or www.recycle.com. These sites can help you get rid of that awful couch or old computer that no one wants.

4. Reuse… This can be as simple as bringing cloth bags to the grocery store instead of using the plastic bags that the stores provide. Many times you end up just throwing those plastic bags out in the garbage (because most of them don’t make it home without being ripped). You can also save up your aluminum cans and other metal itmes to sell at a distrubutor that processes these metals. It is true that aluminum doesn’t sell as well as copper, but every little bit helps.

          ]]>

5. Water, water, everywhere…. Many people buy plastic water bottles by the case in the grocery store. I agree that it is very convenient to do, it can become very costly. By simply filling plastic containers that you most likely already have, you can fill up your own water bottles. By doing this you can save money by crossing another item off your shopping list.

6. Buying new high energy applainces. This option is expensive, but it makes sense in the long run. If you are still using a washing machine from the early to mid 90′s, it is time to upgrade. The new washing machine uses less water and can wash more clothes than your traditional washing machine. Fewer loads to wash also is timesaver for that person on laundry duty. Refigerators as well as washer/dryers also fit into this category. The more modern refrigerators use less electricity than the older models (even if the older model is smaller).

7. Consider installing solar panels. This option must be planned, because the panels and installation are not cheap. I would recommend that you get estimates and references from various installers to compare them. You can acces what a kilowatt of electricity is being sold for at www.flettexchange.com. Many states offer incentives to people that install solar panels in their states. There may be federal grants available also.

8. What am I going to do with all these tree branches? Many cities have a compost center to get rid of yard waste. This is a great service for the residents. If you are new to an area, just contact you local town hall and find out about this service.

9. You can compost yourself. Well, not yourself, but food scraps like banana peels, potato skins, carrot tops, etc. These composting bins are beneficial because instead of throwing these scraps out or putting them into your garbage grinder, you can compost these into usable mulch for your garden. It does take time and practice to put in motion, but Rome wasn’t build in a day.

10. Book lovers unite! There are many things that you can do to all those extra books that have not been read in 15 years. You can donate them to your local school or library. You can decoupage them,(what?), you can drop them off at your local recycling center. There are also used book stores that will take your books, depending on their need. They then allow you to purchase books at a discount. Hint, try not to buy as many books as you dropped off, that defeats the purpose.

Recycling is just a small part of being green. By taking an active role in your environment and teaching others to do the same, we are truly “being green”.

Green Packaging: To The Product A Healthy Face

Article by hi joiney

Packaging as a commodity, an integral part of production has always attached great importance by the manufacturer. Strongly advocated in the 21st century against the background of circular economy, how to make packaging reduction, recycling, increase the green content of packaging, the increasing concern for people. Packaging: a good horse with a good saddle Packaging industry in China started in the 80s of the 20th century, developed in the 90s. Today, China packaging industry has been formed to meet the packaging requirements Paper products, Plastic, metal, glass, wood packaging products and packaging machinery, packaging printing, packaging design, packaging Education As the main pattern of the modern packaging industry. In the fierce market competition, the product can win the favor of customers, companies generally regard the improvement of product quality, lower prices, improve service as Marketing Means. However, as consumer demand for development and social productivity, that freedom of smaller and smaller. Therefore, other competitive means to find a company on a new marketing strategy. Packaging is one of the new marketing strategy. Now, marketing experts have packed on the quality of the product, features, style, brand of equal importance. The world’s largest chemical company DuPont — conduct a market survey has discovered the law of the famous DuPont. 63% of consumers that is based on product packaging and decoration to decide whether to purchase a commodity. Thus, the product packaging has become a silent salesman. Someone has described the magnifying glass packaging is the product characteristics. What characteristics of a product, consumers often through images and text on the packaging of the product can have a rough idea. Packaging can also be given Sell Convenient, make those who are afraid to bring convenient and wavering consumer determined to buy the goods they need. Packaging also determine a product’s positioning in the market. If an enterprise to product positioning in the mass consumer level, then the package must simple, simple; If it is a very precious commodity, packaging should be correspondingly high number. A bottle of expensive French perfume, there must be a nice match with the packaging. This is “a good horse with a good Saddle” truth. Packaging can also bring a sense of security. Packing the most original, most basic function is to prevent product breakage, leakage, rot and so on. Therefore, the package also has the protection of goods, pollution prevention, enabling Environmental protection Role. 80s from the 20th century in China started to increase the pace of development of the packaging industry. To 90 years, our products first-class product, second-class packaging, third the price of backwardness has been changed. Only in the transport packaging, there are 22 categories of goods the packaging has been improved. Such as flat glass from the wooden box past Canada into a pallet of straw to improve packaging, not only save wood, but also greatly reduced the damage, convenient transportation. Sales packaging, PET, PE bottles in the beverage, pure water has been replaced by glass packaging; two cans, three cans of carbonated drinks, juice drinks and beer packaging applications are very common; plastic composite materials developed in a vacuum The application of fresh meat packaging Food Provided a guarantee to extend the shelf life. Packaging can not and harming the environment Just as people enjoy the convenience of packaging to the life, health and safety, and aesthetic, when a crisis is hitting us quietly. In recent years a large number of packaging waste that is waste of resources and environmental pollution caused. According to statistics, only the amount of plastic packaging reached more than 3,000 tons. The United States within one year about 150 million tons of municipal solid waste; Japan within one year about 50 million tons of solid waste. China is the world’s fourth largest plastics producer with annual output of 1,500 tons, which accounted for packaging 30% of total. The plastic packaging, 70% are discarded after single use. Environmentalists pointed out that in the future, China’s packaging waste will be 3 to 5 percent per year rate of increase. Destruction of the ecological equilibrium of these wastes as environmental hazards. Recent years, the disposable foam lunch boxes, plastic bags waste image called “white pollution.” According to statistics, China’s annual consumption of about 6 billion or so snack, instant noodles bowl 5000000000. Have information, general plastic degradation in the natural cycle of 200 years, those in the short term can not degradable plastic, including plastic sheeting to facilitate the bags, once mixed field, it will affect crop growth. If eating animals, light causing indigestion, severe cases can cause death. If burned, will release harmful gases, air pollution. If the scattered cities or tourist areas, not only affect the landscape, but also block waterways. If floating in lakes, rivers, will destroy the water quality and affect the growth of aquatic life. According to statistics, if each mu of land remaining 4 kg of waste plastics, can cut 20% of corn, wheat production by 14%, vegetables 30% cut. Addition to plastic packaging, other types of packaging there are pollution of the environment and the threat to people’s survival. It is reported that a construction site in Dalian, a worker in the bucket of asphalt with a torch cut when the accident drum exploded, causing workers to death. For a long time, my iron drum asphalt has been in use not only cause inconvenience to users, also covered with asphalt scrap iron as the culprit of environmental pollution. In addition, publications with samples of plastic membranes, Carton, A paper mill recovery trouble, there is thrown on the road of broken glass bottles, all have human existence a negative impact on the environment.
