I’ve been making some plastic coatings for wood by dissolving polystyrene (from plastic model kits) into paint thinner in room temperature. So far, i’ve brushed a number of layers throughout one week to accumulate a solidified film, thickness of about .25 millimeters. However, i noticed that my melted polystyrene is no where as hard (resistence to deformation/tensile strength) as before i melted it… Do solvents degrade a plastic by ~entering~ it? In my case, do the solvents EVER fully evaporate? the plastic was not burned on as i caught it before it had time to burn, but there is a layer of white melted plastic from a bag & plastic container stuck to the burner element. Should i carefully heat it to soften it, then scrap off? or…. Click Here to Read More

I have an electric oven and I scrapped all the bottom and the only smoke appears to be comming from the coils at the bottom, if I leave it on for awhile will it eventually quit smokin and also is it dangerous to breath in the smoke? or cook in it?
